Youth Programs

Spring | Summer | Fall | Late Fall/Early Winter | Winter | Teen Programs

The following is a general list of programs which are offered on a yearly basis. For an updated list of programs and current fees, please contact the MPRD office at 863-3216. Programs may vary.

Spring:

Tee Ball: May-June. Ages 4 - 6 yrs. Boys and Girls. Learn the basics of how to play the game of baseball while hitting the ball of a tee. Saturday mornings at Unity Park.
Rookie Ball: April-June. Ages 6-8. Boys and Girls are pitched to by the coaches and develop skill level through fundamental of the game. All abilities welcome. Learn how to play or improve your game. Held at Unity Park.

Farm & Youth League: March-June. Boys and Girls play the game of baseball with other area towns and develop and sharpen their skills and techniques, as well as learn sportsmanship and teamwork. Held at Montague Center field. Weekday evenings mostly.

Girls Softball League:
March-June. Senior League - Grades 3 to 6. Rookie League - K to 6. Girls learn how to play softball and develop skills and teamwork. Games are played on Saturday mornings and practice during the week. Held at Unity Park & Highland Park.

Summer: June-August

Playground Program: Ages 5-8 at Sheffield School.
Ages 5-12 at Unity Park.
Ages 5-12 at Millers Park
Program held Mon-Fri 9am-3pm, for seven weeks. Sign up for any week. Special events, swimming weekly at Laurel Lake and Lake Wyola, projects, sports, games, weekly trips. Competitions, water games, entertainment and more.

Sports & Adventures: Ages 9-14 at the Turners Falls High School. Daily sports, tournaments, competitions, special events, trips, Lake Days. Outdoor adventures and fun for all and a chance to be with friends or make new ones all summer. Mon-Fri 9am-3pm.

Tennis Lessons: Children and Adults. United States Tennis Association curriculum taught to learn the game or improve your strokes. Lessons will be held during the day and evening to fit your schedule, times and days to be announced.

Fall Programs:

Squirts Soccer: Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Saturday mornings at Unity Park. Teaches the young player the skills and the game by using 3 v 3 method. Parents must have involvement at this level.

Junior & Senior Soccer League: Juniors (3 & 4th grade), Seniors (5 & 6th grade) practice once during the week and have games on Saturday mornings with other area towns. Game is played small sided, so the players all learn and everyone is involved.

Family Fall Fun Day; Scarecrow Making Workshop: Held on a Sunday afternoon in October. Come create your own scarecrow to take home and have fun. A small fee, all materials provided along with refreshments. Contact us for details.

Late Fall/Early Winter Programs:

Pool Programs: The Turners Falls High School Pool opens Nov. 1st for the season of swimming. We offer the Bluefish Swim Team and Swim Lessons... more

VFW Rag Shag Halloween Parade: An Annual Rag Shag Parade sponsored by the VFW. Prizes and refreshments offered at the VFW Hall for everyone 6th grade and younger. Costume judging and fun for everyone all for FREE.

Winter Programs:

Instructional Basketball: Kindergarten through 2nd grade, for boys and girls. Come learn to play on lower hoops, skills will be taught and games played for all to participate. January and February.

3 & 4 Junior Co-Ed League Travel Team: Team practices once during the week and plays games against area towns on Saturdays.

5 & 6 Boys Travel Team: Team practices once during the week and plays games against area towns on Saturdays.

5 & 6 Girls Travel Team: Team practices once during the week and plays games against area towns on Saturdays.

Open Gym Nights: At Sheffield School gym and Montague Center Gym for youth and adult players to come and have games or just shoot around.

Teen Programs:

Counselor In Training (C.I.T.) Program: Summer Playground Training Program for those who wish to pursue employment as a counselor in our Summer Playground Program.
